How Does A Photovoltaic Solar Device Works by U4D
According to several studies, the most abundant Renewable Energy resource is coming from the sun, which is also known as the Solar Energy. This is because almost every part of the world receives a certain amount of the solar radiation from the sun, which can be converted into electricity. In order to harvest the heat coming from the sun, a photovoltaic solar device is needed. Well in fact, this is where the primary conversion of thermal to electrical energy takes place. Hence, it is very important for you to understand the basic elements on how this photovoltaic solar device works.
The photovoltaic solar system is composed of several components. All of these components have their specific and special tasks to the whole process of electricity generation. In a general sense, there are at least three (3) major parts of this system. These are the harvesting component, converting component and the distributing component.
On the one hand, the harvesting component of the photovoltaic solar system is composed of the solar cells, module or an array. There are major differences among these three. The cell refers to the smallest unit of solar generating device while the module is composed of several solar cells. Lastly, the array is composed of several modules. The third one is actually being used commonly in commercial to industrial scales of application.
The science behind the harvesting is that the solar cell of the photovoltaic solar system absorbs that heat coming from the sun. It can be composed of silicone or other materials that are capable of converting heat energy to electricity. The panel is coated with an anti-reflective coating so that sunlight will just be absorbed and will not be reflected. Otherwise, it is wasting the heat energy.
On the other hand, the converting component of the photovoltaic solar system can be in two forms. The first form is the one that converts the direct current from the panel or module or array into alternating current or the AC type. This is because the latter is the one that is viable for electricity. The second form is the conversion of the electricity generated to the specific form applicable to the grid. There are certain specifications about this, depending on the voltage and the like.
Lastly, the distributing component of the photovoltaic solar can also be composed of two forms. The first one is the transmission line to different substations. The electricity flowing through the line is usually in a very high voltage. The substation will then convert it either up or down in order to match it to the prevailing current. Now, the second form is from the substation to the houses.
