3 Reasons Why a Solar Electricity System Is A Sustainable Energy Source

Since the recognition that fossil fuels were not limitless an increased demand for new research has led to the development of safer and cleaner energy sources, such as solar power.

Here are three:

1.  Solar electricity systems use indirect and direct methods of harnessing the energy of the sun.

Solar cells are made of thin slices of crystalline gallium arsenide, silicon or other semiconductor materials that convert the solar radiation into electricity. This technology is used in providing electrical energy to satellites that orbit the earth and observing satellites in the depths of space.

2.  Solar electricity provides a long term and sustainable, cost effective energy resource

Solar electricity systems do not comprise of mechanical parts, unlike the electricity generating power plants. Power plants require continually repairs and maintenance to ensure their operation and efficiency which in itself is expensive. Whereas, with solar electricity systems once they are installed they require very little almost no maintenance.

3.  The Concentration of solar radiation for Solar Electricity

Solar radiation can be focused for the purpose of providing energy to heat or boil liquids to power turbines and eventually produce electricity.  Linear parabolic reflectors are one such technology used to concentrate Solar Energy into a receiver installed on the focal line of the receiver. Tubing that is connected to a turbine, is installed along the focal line of the receiver.  The tubing is filled with a liquid so as to absorb the heat generated by the solar energy. Solar electricity systems such as this have higher efficiency rate because the heat from the sun is directed and concentrated for use.

We have experienced the benefits of fossil fuels and now realized its negative consequences on the environment. To ensure the survival on the planet we must move towards a more sustainable and eoc-friendly energy such as Solar Energy.

Alternative Energy Resources: The Quest for Sustainable Energy

$14.94

A balanced introduction to tomorrow’s energy sources Over the course of the next fifty years, there will be a shift in the quest for sustainble energy, including a major change in transportation from internal combustion engines burning petroleum-derived fuels to newer technology engines using new transportation fuels. Alternative Energy Reources examines our options for energy sources with a focus on hydrogen as a large-scale, secondary energy vector parallel to electricity. As the price of petroleum products increases, the world is scrambling to find a suitable replacement energy source. In this comprehensive primer, Professor Paul Kruger examines energy use throughout history and the exponential expansion of our energy use beginning with the Industrial Revolution through the present day. The book then analyzes the various alternative energy sources available, including renewable energy (hydroelectric, solar, wind, biomass, and geothermal), nuclear, and hydrogen. He addresses each energy source’s pros and cons based on our needs, availability, and environmental impact aspects. Finally, Dr. Kruger proposes the use of hydrogen as a fuel to sustain our energy supply produced by appropriate technology mixtures of renewable and nuclear energy.

Sustainable Fossil Fuels: The Unusual Suspect in the Quest for Clean and Enduring Energy

Sustainable Fossil Fuels: The Unusual Suspect in the Quest for Clean and Enduring Energy

$3.95

More and more people believe we must quickly wean ourselves from fossil fuels – oil, natural gas and coal – to save the planet from environmental catastrophe, wars and economic collapse. Professor Jaccard argues that this view is misguided. We have the technological capability to use fossil fuels without emitting climate-threatening greenhouse gases or other pollutants. The transition from conventional oil and gas to their unconventional sources including coal for producing electricity, hydrogen and cleaner-burning fuels will decrease energy dependence on politically unstable regions. In addition, our vast fossil fuel resources will be the cheapest source of clean energy for the next century and perhaps longer, which is critical for the economic and social development of the world’s poorer countries. By buying time for increasing energy efficiency, developing renewable energy technologies and making nuclear power more attractive, fossil fuels will play a key role in humanity’s quest for a sustainable energy system.

The Solar Economy: Renewable Energy for a Sustainable Global Future

The Solar Economy: Renewable Energy for a Sustainable Global Future

$40.63

* Herman Scheer was awarded the Alternative Nobel Prize in 1999The global economy and our way of life are based on the exploitation of fossil fuels, which not only threaten massive environmental and social disruption through global warming but, at present rates of consumption, will run out within decades, causing huge industrial dislocation and economic collapse. Even before then, the conflicts it causes in the Middle East and elsewhere will be frighteningly exacerbated. The alternate exists: renewable energy from renewable sources – above all, solar. Substituting renewable for fossil resources will take a new industrial revolution to avert the worst of the damage and establish a new international order. It can be done, and it can be done in time. "The Solar Economy," by one of the world’s most effective analysts and advocates, lays out the blueprints, showing how the political, economic, and technological challenges can be met using indigenous, renewable, and universally available resources, and the enormous opportunities and benefits that will flow from doing so.
